Canggu: the hangout for hip students and digital nomads

Canggu is THE buzzing town in Bali. If you dream of a daily life spent between beach clubs, stylish restaurants, ultra-connected coworking spaces, and a young and dynamic community, Canggu is probably what you need. But beware, with so much going on, there are bound to be a few minor drawbacks. Here is a clear guide to help you decide if Canggu is the ideal place to stay during your internship.

The perks of living in Canggu: a paradise of cool vibes

  1. The best social life
Canggu is the beating heart of Bali for young expats, students, and digital nomads. You won't have time to get bored: brunches, yoga, rooftop parties, meetups... There's always something going on.

  2. Lively nightlife
If you like to go out, you'll be spoiled for choice. Places like Old Man's, La Brisa, or Sandbar are classic spots for a drink, a dance, or just to meet cool people. And all of them are less than 10 minutes away by scooter, no matter where you're staying in Canggu.

  3. Restaurants and cafés galore
Are you a food lover? Canggu is an explosion of flavors. Burgers, poke bowls, vegan cuisine, healthy food, pizzas... There are hundreds of spots like Crate Café, Shady Shack, or Give Cafe to satisfy all your cravings.

  4. Close to legendary beaches
You can go surfing at Echo Beach, stroll along Batu Bolong Beach, or just chill out watching the sunset with a coconut. Depending on where you're staying, you'll be between 5 and 15 minutes from the beach by scooter.

  5. Stylish and practical coworking spaces
Canggu is full of coworking spaces such as Dojo and Tropical Nomad. If you need a professional space to work on your internship, everything you need is right here: fast Wi-Fi, good vibes, and easy networking.

The downsides of living in Canggu: the flip side of the coin

  1. Traffic, a real pain
Canggu is a victim of its own success: the main streets are crowded at almost all hours. On a scooter, allow 15-20 minutes for trips that should take 5. On foot, forget it: there are no sidewalks.

  2. More expensive accommodation
Since everyone wants to live here, rents can be high. A basic studio apartment can cost more than in Pererenan or Ubud, especially if you want to be close to the beach.

  3. Always on the move
Canggu is super lively, but it can be tiring if you prefer peace and quiet. Between the scooters, the music from the bars, and the constant energy, some people quickly seek to get away from it all (hello Pererenan!).

  4. Less local vibes
With all the expats and tourists, you'll sometimes feel like you're in a small international town rather than an authentic Balinese village.

Who is Canggu for?

If you want to:
✅ Be at the heart of the action and have everything at your fingertips.
✅ Meet lots of people (perfect for networking and socializing).
✅ Enjoy a good mix of work, relaxation, and partying.

Canggu is an excellent choice. But if you're looking for a little more peace and quiet or a lower accommodation budget, you might want to consider Pererenan or Ubud.

Distances to help you get your bearings:

  • Batu Bolong Beach: 5-10 minutes by scooter (depending on your accommodation)

  • Echo Beach: 8 minutes by scooter

  • Bars such as Old Man’s or Sandbar: 5 minutes by scooter

  • Pererenan: 10 minutes by scooter

So, Team Canggu or not?
