Uluwatu: Surfers' Paradise and Breathtaking Cliffs

·

Uluwatu sits at Bali's southern tip on a limestone peninsula. Dramatic cliffs, world-class surf breaks, dramatic sunsets at Rock Bar. It is stunning and specific — great for some interns, wrong for others.

The character

Uluwatu feels remote even when it is not. 45 minutes from Canggu, 30 from the airport. Once you are there, you are there — not quickly popping back to meet friends for lunch. The crowd is surf-focused, slightly older, and more international than local.

Why interns choose Uluwatu

Surf. Uluwatu break is one of the best in the world. Padang Padang, Impossibles, Bingin nearby. If surfing is central to your daily life, this is where you want to be.

Views. Living on the cliffs means sunset from your balcony, ocean views from coworking spaces, the dramatic Uluwatu Temple 10 minutes away.

Quiet. Less crowded than Canggu, less touristy than Seminyak. Good for deep focus.

The daily reality

Scooter essential. Uluwatu is spread out. Daily life requires comfort on the bike and willingness to ride 15-20 minutes for groceries, cafes, or friends.

Coworking. Suki Space, Mana Uluwatu. Fewer options than Canggu, smaller communities.

Cafes. Drifter, Single Fin, Uluwatu Cafe. Beautiful, often with ocean views, slightly pricier than Canggu equivalents.

Housing

Villa rentals are the main offer. Shared 3-bedroom villas with pool: €400-700 per person. Private studios are rarer and range €550-900. Our network has 3 pre-negotiated guesthouses focused on quality over variety.

Trade-offs

Pros. Stunning environment, world-class surf, quieter vibe, fewer distractions, memorable location.

Cons. Far from everything, smaller intern community (harder to make fast friends), scooter dependency is high, less restaurant diversity.

Who Uluwatu is for

Serious surfers. Introverts who want focus. Interns working at Uluwatu-specific businesses (beach clubs, surf brands, high-end hospitality). People who prioritize environment over community.

Who should look elsewhere

First-time interns who want easy access to the community. Non-surfers. Those who value social density. Short-term stays (under 3 months) — the commute friction outweighs the beauty.

Our recommendation

If Uluwatu is your dream, do Uluwatu. The environment alone will make your Bali memories. If you are unsure, start in Canggu and day-trip to Uluwatu on weekends. You will quickly know if you want to move there full-time.

Either way, our team handles the logistics. No blind booking from Europe.
